What stays here, what doesn't.

Effective September 19, 2026· Grey Bird LLC

Voter Choice is operated by Grey Bird LLC. We built this tool to minimize data collection and to keep your research on your elected officials under your control.

We Never Sell Your Data

We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. We also never share it for tracking.

The Free Ballot

No account or email address is required to use the free ballot. Your ballot choices are saved in your browser, not in our database. Your browser also saves your ballot area (including ZIP, district, county and place name when available) and which candidates you have revealed. These details can remain after you close the tab; you can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser. Your street address is not included in that saved ballot.

Asking us to email a ballot copy sends your email address and choices to our server to prepare that message. This is separate from signing up for updates or creating an account. Those optional services retain the records described below. We do not use advertising pixels or third-party analytics to profile your ballot choices.

Optional Assessment Features

The separate assessment experience, where available, has its own browser storage for issues, location, preferences and session history. Some versions also save completed chats across reloads. Clearing this site's browser data removes saved local history. The free ballot does not submit issue preferences or send your choices to an AI service.

Using AI chat sends your messages and the supplied context to Anthropic for processing. An uploaded profile can become part of that context. Do not include identifying details you do not want the provider to process. An optional bring-your-own Anthropic key is stored in your browser and used for direct browser-to-Anthropic requests. See Anthropic's privacy policy.

Assessment features can record state-level usage counts and issue signals. When shared opinion-map collection is enabled, statement responses and state are stored with a random session token that groups responses from that visit. These records do not include a name, email or street address. AI features also record operational metrics such as model, token totals and estimated cost. These features are separate from the free ballot and optional email or account records.

Address Lookup

We use your ZIP to look up your district in our records. When configured, Google also receives the ZIP to look up its city name. If a ZIP cannot identify your district, we ask for a street address. Google Places may process what you type for address suggestions, and our server sends the submitted address to the US Census Bureau to resolve your district. We do not save that street address in our application database. Lookup providers process requests under their own policies; we do not promise that they immediately delete them.

In separate polling-place and pilot features, an address may also be sent through our server to Google Civic Information. See Google's privacy policy.

Optional Email Updates

If you request updates, we store your email address, preferences, consent and confirmation history, and delivery and unsubscribe records. Reminder preferences can include the areas and deadlines you select. Your request is recorded before confirmation, but you are not subscribed until you click the confirmation link. Unsubscribing stops updates; it does not erase all consent or delivery records. We also keep suppression records to avoid sending to addresses that have bounced or reported unwanted mail.

We use Amazon SES to send service emails. Our email providers process recipients, message contents and delivery information. We never sell the mailing list or share it for advertising or tracking.

Optional Accounts, Founding Member and Donations

Creating an account uses Clerk for sign-in and verification. Clerk processes account information and uses authentication cookies or similar browser storage. The free ballot does not require this login. Stripe handles Founding Member and donation payments on its hosted pages; our application does not receive or store your full card number.

For a Founding Member purchase, we retain your email, purchase date, founding slot, checkout, customer, subscription and invoice references, payment and access status, and service-email records. When you claim the purchase, we also retain your account identifier. These records support access, billing, cancellations, refunds and purchase-related messages. Buying Founding Member does not sign you up for marketing updates.

Emailing a Copy of Your Ballot Sheet

When you request a copy, your email, state and selected candidate identifiers are sent to our server to compose it. This request does not add you to a mailing list. The ballot-copy route does not save your email or choices in our database; your browser still keeps your ballot choices. If delivery is available, email providers process the message and recipient information. A copy in your inbox remains subject to your email provider's storage and deletion settings.

Technical Records and Service Providers

We use IP-based request limits to prevent abuse. Depending on configuration, counters are held in server memory or a Redis service. Ballot lookup and copy requests use a one-minute request window. This is a request limit, not a guarantee that technical records are deleted after one minute.

Hosting, database, email, sign-in, payment and lookup providers process data to operate their services, including technical request data such as IP addresses. Our pages also load fonts from Google. Provider processing is different from selling your data. We do not promise that no technical logs, cookies or provider records exist, or that closing a tab deletes server-side service records.
